Ornex, March-April 2011 - The Global Alliance Against Female Genital
Mutilation (GA-FGM) is a joint Canadian, German and French initiative, based in the « Pays de Gex. » Founded in November 2010, in tandem with, the creation of UNWomen (the new United Nations superstructure aiding in empowerment of women around the world)—it is GA-FGM’s core-initiative to federate twenty-five years of
African and European expertise in the eradication of Female Genital Mutilation—using innovating joint-communication strategies—in order to accelerate its abandonment around the world.
The Global Alliance Against Female Genital Mutilation advocacy-campaigns are
officially supported by two Goodwill Ambassadors: Captain Christine de St Genois de
Grand Breucq, French humanitarian, pioneer in commercial aviation, recently made a Knight of the Legion of Honour and famous Dutch Jazz musician Jasper van't Hof.
Jasper van't Hof, famous in Africa and Europe, has revolutionized European jazz and jazz fusion, notably with his Euro-African group Pili Pili. Sacred best European keyboard player, Jasper van't Hof has performed with the greatest jazz musicians:
Charlie Mariano, Philip Catherine, Jan Gabarek, Wolfgang Dauner and the legendary Keith Jarret. Both Goodwill Ambassadors are dedicated heart-and-soul to the most difficult mission: to raise public awareness about the devastating consequences of this practice with the collaboration of concerned governments, media and civil society—to
put a halt to women and young girls abuse.
The charity concert will take place in Versonnex, a small municipality of neighboring France. In addition, it is the French-German mayor of Versonnex, Mr. Frank Hedrich, who generously offered free-of-charge the municipal ballroom for this charity concert and cultural event. Mr. van't Hof hopes to gather people from the Pays de Gex and Geneva to pay a tribute to this very special region of France, opened to diversity and great humanitarian causes due to the generosity of the people of Gex themselves and of course the vicinity to «international» Geneva.
«The Global Alliance Against FGM must be supported by men and women of all cultures!» said, the Goodwill Ambassador, Van’t Hof to a Canadian journalist, at the International Day of Zero Tolerance to FGM in Geneva on February 6th 2011. «I have a dream : to have an annual jazz event in Versonnex, because the People of the Pays de Gex, the municipal politicians and local businesses were the first ever to say, Yes! to our initiative. Versonnex will always have a special place in my heart!»
