Description

“To me PASSION is more than just a title: this word embraces my attitude towards life and music as a whole. When Jaap Berends, Bub Boelens, Florian Hoefnagels and I recorded this composition, which then was only two days old, we knew that “Passion” would be the perfect title for it and that it should be the title for the entire record. We make music in order to share our innermost feelings, to say with our instruments everything that words cannot express. It is all about emotions and passion, trance and devotion. For that, we need absolute trust and loyalty amongst the musicians. I composed the pieces but what we make of them is decided right in the moment when we are playing together, just like in this recording. For us, this is the most beautiful and exciting way of making music, it is our PASSION.” That´s what Wirth says in the liner note for “PASSION”, the inner view of an artist, focused in his work, living in music.

Stephan-Max Wirth is considered one of the top saxophonists in international jazz. With his “robust tone, which gets under your skin(Der Spiegel), he’s proved himself over the years at all the important festivals. Wirth doesn’t re-create; he creates anew. “He immerses himself deeply in the story and then lands perfectly in the moment(Jazzthing). His projects and interpretations enjoy the highest regard from press and public alike, win awards and receive great praise. Stephan-Max Wirth is “a great asset not just for jazz, but for the entire cultural landscape(Jazzpodium). Lastly, as Titel Magazine puts it; “Wirth is considered a brilliant composer and saxophonist in the contemporary jazz scene; a great musician:”

The Stephan-Max Wirth Ensemble has been nominated for the JAZZ-ECHO German Music Award for their last Recording “multiple pulse” as Ensemble of the Year.
